Peachtree City • Fayetteville • Tyrone • South Atlanta Area
Current as of May 2026. Please verify details before visiting, because hours, services, office locations, elected officials, programs, eligibility rules, and procedures can change.
3 important takeaways
- Even if you do not live in this area, this guide can help you build your own local care map. Near the bottom of this post, I list the categories to research in your own city, county, or region. You can even copy the entire list into an AI tool and say: “This is my ZIP code. Help me find these categories near me.” Then verify everything through official websites.
- Getting settled with chronic illness or caregiving needs is different. You are not just looking for restaurants, grocery stores, and pretty parks. You need hospitals, benefits offices, transportation options, libraries, emergency backups, inclusive recreation, and practical support.
- The Peachtree City / Fayetteville / Tyrone area is close enough to Atlanta to access major specialty care, but far enough away that traffic matters. Plan appointments with energy, medication timing, sensory needs, mobility, and caregiver fatigue in mind.
Why this guide needs to exist
When you move somewhere new, people usually tell you where to eat, where to shop, where the “nice area” is, and which roads to avoid.
That is helpful. And yes, I share some local gems and good eats later on my Yelp and Google Local Guide pages, but let’s stay focused right now. 🥰
When your life includes chronic illness, disability needs, special-needs caregiving, medical paperwork, benefits, therapies, transportation concerns, sensory needs, or appointment-heavy weeks, you need a different kind of welcome guide.
You need to know:
Where is the hospital?
Where do I get vital records?
Who handles benefits?
Where is the library?
What happens if I need energy assistance?
How close am I to Atlanta specialty care?
Is there transit nearby?
Where can I take someone for recreation that is more inclusive?
Where do I go when things are not an emergency yet, but they are getting close?
That is why I had to make this a staple on Ribbon Life. This is the information I wish I had when I moved here. Period.
This guide was created by @msBrandiDawson, creator of Ribbon Life, chronic-illness warrior, special-needs mom to @jrsJavaAndMore, caregiver, content creator, and storyteller. I live in the Peachtree City / Fayetteville / Tyrone area and have called metro Atlanta home for almost 10 years, by way of Columbus, Georgia.
This is the Admin Edition, so the focus is practical: offices, records, benefits, hospitals, transportation, libraries, support programs, and “where do I even start?” information.
A separate Leisure Activities & Special-Needs Programs Edition is coming later, because that deserves its own space.
Start with getting to know the area
The Peachtree City / Fayetteville / Tyrone area sits on the south side of metro Atlanta, mostly within Fayette County.
Common ZIP codes to know:
- Peachtree City: 30269
- Fayetteville: 30214 and 30215
- Tyrone: 30290
If you are coming from Atlanta on I-85 South, Peachtree City and Tyrone are commonly reached through the GA-74 / Fairburn area, Exit 61. From there, Highway 74 brings you toward Tyrone and Peachtree City, and local routes can connect you toward Fayetteville depending on where you are going.
But this is Atlanta-area life, so let’s be honest: the map can say one thing and traffic can say, “Actually, we’re doing character development today.”
A real-life GPS note
My first choice for GPS around here is Waze.
And once you are moving around the Atlanta area, when Waze tells you to do something, do it. Do not get cute. Do not decide you know better because “it looks close on the map.” Atlanta traffic will humble you fast, and before you know it, a quick trip can turn into three hours of traffic or a surprise emotional journey halfway to Tennessee.
For chronic illness life and caregiving, traffic is not just annoying. It can affect medication timing, pain levels, sensory overload, school pickup, bathroom needs, appointment stress, and how much energy everybody has left when you finally get home.
Around here, the route is part of the care plan.
Search keywords:
Peachtree City GA 30269, Fayetteville GA 30214, Fayetteville GA 30215, Tyrone GA 30290, Fayette County GA services, Peachtree City to Atlanta, Fayetteville GA to Atlanta airport
Know your Atlanta-area specialty care landmarks
For everyday medical needs, you may use local doctors, urgent care, pharmacies, and Piedmont Fayette Hospital.
But for specialty care — especially pediatric specialty care, autism evaluations, complex chronic illness, adult specialty care, or academic medical referrals — you may still be driving into Atlanta, Brookhaven, Midtown, Sandy Springs, Chamblee, Doraville, or other parts of metro Atlanta.
That does not mean the area is a bad fit. It just means you need to plan honestly.
Places families may want on their care map
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport — airport access for medical travel, family support, emergencies, respite visits, and out-of-town relatives.
- Piedmont Fayette Hospital — local hospital access in Fayetteville.
- Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Arthur M. Blank Hospital — pediatric specialty care and children’s hospital services.
- Marcus Autism Center — autism assessment, autism-related care, feeding support, behavior support, family resources, and research.
- Emory Healthcare — adult specialty care, hospital care, complex medical referrals, and academic healthcare.
- Mercer University Atlanta Campus — Atlanta campus information and possible education/resource connection points.
A good local care map is not just:
Where is the closest place?
It is also:
Can we realistically get there, park, wait, be seen, get back home, pick up medicine, eat something, and still function afterward?
That question matters. Especially when one appointment can take the whole day out of everybody.
Search keywords:
Peachtree City to CHOA, Fayetteville GA to Marcus Autism Center, Tyrone GA to Emory Hospital, Fayette County GA to Atlanta airport, Mercer University Atlanta campus, pediatric autism evaluation Atlanta, pediatric feeding clinic Atlanta, adult neurology Atlanta, chronic illness specialist Georgia
Local government leaders and offices to know
You do not have to follow every city meeting, but it helps to know who runs what — especially when you are looking for parks, permits, public meetings, public records, accessibility questions, or local updates.
Because this guide covers Peachtree City, Fayetteville, and Tyrone, I would list all three local mayor/council pages:
- Peachtree City Mayor & City Council — Peachtree City lists Kim Learnard as mayor.
- Fayetteville Mayor & City Council — Fayetteville lists Edward Johnson as mayor.
- Tyrone Mayor & Council — Tyrone lists Eric Dial as mayor.
City Hall, Town Hall, and County Administration
Search keywords:
Peachtree City City Hall, Fayetteville GA City Hall, Tyrone GA Town Hall, Fayette County Administration, Fayette County Board of Commissioners
DFCS / benefits support
In Georgia, many people still say DFACS, but the official name you will usually see now is DFCS: Division of Family & Children Services.
The Fayette County DFCS office is the county benefits office to research for local DFCS needs.
You may also need Georgia Gateway, Georgia’s online system for applying for or managing benefits.
This may come up if your family needs to apply for, renew, or manage:
- Medicaid
- PeachCare for Kids
- SNAP / food assistance
- TANF
- WIC
- child care assistance / CAPS
- benefit renewals
- uploaded documents
- address or income changes
This is not the fun part of settling in, but it is often one of the most important.
Search keywords:
Fayette County DFCS, Georgia Gateway, Georgia Medicaid application, SNAP Georgia, PeachCare for Kids, CAPS Georgia child care
Practical help before things become a crisis
When you are settling into a new area while managing chronic illness, caregiving, disability needs, or financial strain, it helps to know where practical support lives before everything turns into an emergency.
Two places worth knowing early are The Real Life Center and Clayton County Community Services Authority.
The Real Life Center
The Real Life Center is based in Tyrone and serves families in Fayette and Coweta counties with emergency and financial assistance, practical support, and holistic care.
This is one of those places I would keep on the local care map even if you do not need it right now. Life can shift fast. A job change, medical flare, utility bill, food need, car issue, or caregiving disruption can turn “we’re okay” into “we need help this week.”
And there is no shame in knowing where help exists.
That is not failure. That is planning.
Search keywords:
Real Life Center Tyrone GA, Real Life Center Fayette County, food assistance Fayette County GA, emergency financial help Fayette County GA, Tyrone GA family support
Clayton County Community Services Authority / LIHEAP
Do not let the name confuse you: Clayton County Community Services Authority also serves Fayette County residents.
This agency is important because it is a go-to place to research LIHEAP, which stands for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. LIHEAP helps eligible households with home energy bills.
For caregivers and people living with chronic illness, energy assistance is not just about comfort. Electricity, heat, and cooling can affect:
- medical equipment
- medication storage
- breathing issues
- pain flares
- sleep
- sensory regulation
- food safety
- basic health and safety at home
So yes, even though it says Clayton County, Fayette County residents should still check Clayton County CSA when looking for energy assistance through LIHEAP.
Important note: LIHEAP funding, appointment windows, eligibility rules, and application steps can change. Check the agency’s current LIHEAP page or appointment scheduler before applying.
Search keywords:
Clayton County CSA LIHEAP Fayette County, LIHEAP Fayette County GA, energy assistance Fayette County GA, utility assistance Fayetteville GA, Clayton County Community Services Authority LIHEAP
Vital records
If you need birth certificates, death certificates, or certain certified documents, start with Fayette County Probate Court / Vital Records.
This may matter for school enrollment, benefits, Medicaid, guardianship-related paperwork, travel documents, estate planning, or care planning.
Search keywords:
Fayette County GA vital records, Fayette County Probate Court birth certificate, Georgia birth certificate Fayette County, Georgia death certificate Fayette County
Hospitals, urgent care, and medical access
The main local hospital to know is Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville.
If you are living with chronic illness or caring for someone with complex needs, it is worth building your own local medical map beyond the hospital.
Add these to your personal list:
- primary care provider
- urgent care
- preferred pharmacy
- nearest 24-hour pharmacy
- lab location
- imaging center
- DME supplier, meaning durable medical equipment supplier
- home health provider
- physical therapy
- occupational therapy
- speech therapy
- mental health provider
- specialists in Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, Stockbridge, Atlanta, or wherever your care team is located
Search keywords:
Piedmont Fayette Hospital, urgent care Fayetteville GA, special needs doctor Fayette County GA, neurology Fayetteville GA, DME supplier Fayetteville GA, home health Fayette County GA
Personal recommendation to research: Southern Crescent Medical Clinic
One local provider I would put on a research list is Southern Crescent Medical Clinic, located on Lanier Avenue / Highway 54 in Fayetteville.
Specifically, I would note:
Southern Crescent Medical Clinic
Dr. J. Lerner / Dr. Jay L. Lerner, DC
Lanier Avenue / Highway 54 area
Fayetteville, GA
This may be worth researching if chiropractic care, pain-related support, injury recovery, or wellness support is part of your care plan.
A gentle note: chiropractic care is not a replacement for medical diagnosis, imaging, emergency care, medication management, or specialist care. If you are dealing with chronic illness, new pain, neurological symptoms, injury, or worsening symptoms, check with your doctor or care team.
Search keywords:
Southern Crescent Medical Clinic Fayetteville GA, Dr. Jay Lerner Fayetteville GA, Southern Crescent Medical Lanier Avenue, chiropractor Highway 54 Fayetteville GA, chronic pain support Fayetteville GA
Transportation and appointment planning
Transportation is one of those things people do not always think about until they need it.
But if you live with chronic illness, care for someone with a disability, support an older adult, or manage multiple appointments, transportation can become a care issue very quickly.
Fayetteville and Peachtree City do not have the same kind of public transit access you may expect if you are used to Atlanta, Fulton, DeKalb, or Clayton County. That means local families often have to plan around driving, rides from others, senior/disabled transportation programs, rideshare, park-and-ride options, or connecting to MARTA outside the county.
Fairburn Park & Ride near Senoia Road and Highway 74
One transportation option to know is the Fairburn Park & Ride area near Senoia Road and Highway 74.
MARTA Route 188 operates between College Park Station and the Fairburn Park & Ride, which can help riders connect into the MARTA rail system for trips into Atlanta.
The South Fulton CID Fairburn Park & Ride fact sheet lists the Park & Ride at 8100 Senoia Road, Fairburn, GA 30213, near the SR-74 / I-85 interchange.
This matters because even though Fayette County itself does not have a full local transit system like Atlanta, the Fairburn Park & Ride may be close enough for some Peachtree City, Tyrone, or Fayetteville residents to use as a connection point.
For caregivers and people living with chronic illness, that can be useful for:
- getting into Atlanta without driving the whole way
- connecting to MARTA rail
- planning airport trips
- reducing parking stress for city appointments
- arranging caregiver handoffs
- creating backup transportation options
Still, check the schedule before depending on it.
Fayette Senior Services
Fayette Senior Services is worth knowing, especially if your household includes older adults or disabled adults.
Their transportation services page says transportation programs are open to Fayette County residents age 60 and older, as well as disabled adults ages 18 to 59 who are unable to drive.
This is not just “nice to know.” This can matter if someone stops driving, has surgery, needs dialysis, cannot safely drive after treatment, or needs prescription pickup support.
Search keywords:
Fairburn Park and Ride Senoia Road, MARTA Route 188 Fairburn Park and Ride, Peachtree City to Fairburn Park and Ride, Fayetteville GA to MARTA College Park Station, Fayette Senior Services transportation, disabled adult transportation Fayette County GA
Libraries
Do not sleep on the libraries.
For caregivers, families, disabled adults, chronically ill people, students, and people who just need somewhere quiet and low-cost to exist for a minute, libraries can be gold.
They can offer books, Wi-Fi, printing, meeting rooms, technology help, children’s programs, adult programs, digital books, study spaces, and a place to reset without spending money.
Local libraries to know
Search keywords:
Peachtree City Library, Fayette County Public Library, Tyrone Public Library, library museum passes Georgia, library Wi-Fi Fayette County
Parks and recreation — including therapeutic recreation
Parks matter more than people think when you are living with chronic illness or caregiving.
Sometimes you need a low-pressure place to walk. Sometimes your loved one needs a structured activity that is not school, therapy, or another appointment. Sometimes the caregiver needs five quiet minutes and a tree.
That counts too.
Look for therapeutic recreation, not just regular recreation
When researching local parks and recreation, also search for therapeutic recreation or adaptive recreation.
Therapeutic recreation usually means recreation programs designed with support, accessibility, disability needs, social connection, physical movement, and quality of life in mind. It may include adapted activities, social programs, movement classes, special events, and inclusive recreation opportunities for people with cognitive, developmental, physical, or other disabilities.
This is especially important for special-needs families because the right recreation program can support:
- socialization
- confidence
- movement
- routine
- community connection
- caregiver relief
- safe practice outside the home
- belonging beyond school, therapy, or medical appointments
Fayette County Parks & Recreation / Therapeutics
For this area, I would start with Fayette County Parks & Recreation and their activity catalog, which includes therapeutic programs.
Other parks and recreation links to know
- Peachtree City Parks & Recreation
- Peachtree City All Children’s Playground
- Fayetteville Parks & Recreation
- Fayette County Parks & Recreation
- Tyrone Parks & Facilities
- Tyrone Recreation
Search keywords:
Fayette County Parks and Recreation therapeutic recreation, Fayette County GA therapeutics recreation, adaptive recreation Fayette County GA, special needs recreation Fayetteville GA, therapeutic recreation near Peachtree City, inclusive recreation Fayette County GA
Post offices and official mail
When you are handling benefit paperwork, school paperwork, medical records, certified mail, packages, business mail, or official documents, knowing the post office locations helps.
Use the USPS Location Finder and search by city or ZIP code.
Search keywords:
USPS Peachtree City, USPS Fayetteville GA, USPS Tyrone GA, certified mail Fayetteville GA
Emergency veterinary care, animal control, and humane society
Pets are part of the care map too.
For many families, pets are emotional support, routine, companionship, and sometimes the only creature in the house not asking you to fill out a form. 😅
Pet and animal resources to know
- Fayette County Animal Control
- Fayette Humane Society
- Fayette Veterinary Medical Center
- BluePearl Pet Hospital
Research your closest after-hours emergency vet before you need it. Do this when things are calm, not while a pet is sick at 11:47 p.m. and everybody is panicking.
Search keywords:
emergency vet Fayetteville GA, BluePearl pet hospital Atlanta, Fayette Veterinary Medical Center emergency, Fayette County Animal Control, Fayette Humane Society, pet adoption Fayette County GA
Disability and special-needs resources to research early
If you are caring for someone with intellectual or developmental disabilities, do not wait until you are in crisis to learn the names of the systems.
Start researching:
- Georgia NOW / COMP waiver information
- Apply for NOW and COMP services
- DBHDD: Apply for Developmental Disability Services
- Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency
- United Way 211 Atlanta resource search
This is where the local map becomes more than convenience. It becomes continuity.
Search keywords:
Georgia NOW COMP waiver, DBHDD Region 6 Fayette County, apply for DD services Georgia, Georgia Medicaid waiver intellectual disability, Georgia autism services, special needs adult programs near Peachtree City, Fayette County disability resources
Honorable mention: Christian City in Union City
Christian City in Union City is worth knowing about, especially for families researching foster care, adoption support, children’s residential programs, senior living, or broader family-support services.
I would keep this as an honorable mention because it is outside Peachtree City / Fayetteville / Tyrone proper, but close enough that families may come across it while researching care, aging, children’s services, or family support.
Search keywords:
Christian City Union City GA, Christian City foster care, Christian City senior living, Christian City children and family programs
Why basic-needs resources belong in a caregiver guide
A lot of caregiving guides focus only on doctors, schools, therapies, and benefits.
Those matter.
But real life also includes:
- the light bill
- groceries
- transportation
- medication pickup
- pet care
- internet access
- printing paperwork
- finding a quiet place to sit
- getting to appointments without draining everybody completely
When someone is dealing with chronic illness or disability, a basic need can become a health need fast.
A utility bill is not just a bill if someone uses medical equipment.
Transportation is not just transportation if someone has dialysis, therapy, school meetings, or specialist visits.
Food assistance is not just food assistance if medication has to be taken with meals.
That is why this local map should include both medical resources and stability resources.
Because care is not only what happens in a clinic.
Care is also keeping the home running enough for people to breathe.

Quick privacy note
You do not need to share your diagnosis, full address, Social Security number, private records, or personal family details to get useful starting points from AI.
A ZIP code, city, county, and general category list is usually enough.
AI can help organize the search. Official websites are still the receipt. 🧾💜

Final thoughts
The Peachtree City, Fayetteville, and Tyrone area has a lot to offer, but settling in while managing chronic illness or caregiving means you need more than pretty scenery and good restaurants.
You need practical information.
You need names to search.
You need offices to know before you are already overwhelmed.
You need places that help your life run with a little less friction.
This list is the beginning — not the final word.
And remember: this is the Admin Edition. A separate Leisure Activities & Special-Needs Programs Edition is coming later, because joy, recreation, belonging, and community life deserve their own map too.
